Yesterday, Somerset Council reversed its position on 24/7 parking charges after huge public opposition – and it’s thanks to you.

From the moment these unfair proposals were announced, hundreds of you spoke out. You signed my letter, shared your concerns, and made clear that rural communities, small businesses, and families shouldn’t be treated as cash cows.

Your Conservative councillors challenged these proposals head-on, and under pressure, the council backed down. They’ve now scrapped plans for overnight parking charges and will introduce 30 minutes of free parking in key areas. That’s a real win for local businesses and residents.

This is a big step in the right direction, but the fight isn’t over. Sunday parking charges and new fees in free car parks are still on the table. The Liberal Democrats have already racked up a £100 million deficit—they’ll keep coming after drivers, businesses, and families to fill the hole.
