From today, family farms and businesses are officially subject to inheritance tax.
You can’t farm without land, and you can’t run a local business without assets. By forcing families to sell off pieces of their livelihood just to pay a tax bill, we are damaging our economy and our food security.
In West Somerset alone, 93% of people are employed by small and medium sized businesses, many of them are family owned. If these families have to sell off land or machinery to settle a debt with the Treasury, those jobs go with them.
We should be encouraging the next generation to build and grow, not taxing them for keeping a family legacy alive. I will continue to campaign to scrap this shortsighted tax. ![]()
