Whitehall has decided to abolish Mid Devon District Council and hand your local services to a giant new authority. The county's own figures put the bill at £33.6 million at minimum. The Government is contributing as little as £900,000. The rest falls on council taxpayers like you. Nobody here voted for this. Add your name and demand better.

We, the undersigned residents of Devon, object to the forced abolition of Mid Devon District Council and the imposition of a costly new unitary authority that local people never asked for and never voted for.
Reorganisation will cost tens of millions of pounds at a time when families are struggling with their bills and local services are already stretched. In Somerset, the same promise of savings ended in financial crisis and a 7.5 per cent council tax rise. Devon's residents deserve better than to repeat that mistake at their own expense.
We call on the Government to halt this reorganisation until the people of Devon have been given a genuine say, and to guarantee that not a penny of the cost will be added to residents' council tax bills.
