Isobel and I are heartbroken by the tragic events on Exmoor yesterday. The loss of a child and injury to others in the collision is beyond words, and our thoughts are with the families, children and staff at Minehead Middle.
We used to live just a few hundred metres from the site of the crash, and I know this tragedy cuts deep for our close-knit community in Minehead, and across Exmoor.
Thank you to the emergency services who saved so many lives in such difficult conditions, and to those in the local community, including the people I’ve spoken to who were first on the scene and the team at the Rest and Be Thankful, who provided care whilst the emergency services arrived.
Right now is about the families and children, I know staff at Minehead Middle and the team at Beacon Education will be doing all they can to support them.
UPDATE
If you would like to help those affected by the collision in West Somerset, please consider supporting the appeal set up by Somerset Community Foundation.
Details are below via Mandy Chilcott, one of the Somerset councillors for Minehead.
I’ve met some of those who were among the first on the scene and heard firsthand about the bravery shown by children, adults, and local residents who stepped in to help. Many families and young people will be affected in a variety of ways. Please give if you’re able.
