Every puppy deserves the best start in life. Unfortunately, in the last parliament, a law aimed at stopping puppy smuggling didn’t pass due to time constraints.
I’ve launched a petition to bring back the Animal Welfare (Importation of Dogs, Cats, and Ferrets) Bill. This law would ban the importation of puppies under six months old, stop heavily pregnant dogs from being transported, and prevent the sale of mutilated animals, like those with cropped ears.
The surge in puppy smuggling, which skyrocketed during the pandemic, has had devastating consequences for animal welfare. We need action.
