Andrew

I’m very sorry to say that my Dad, Andrew Wright, died suddenly on the 7th of July 2023. He was only 64 years old and the family and I will miss him immensely.

Andrew had an incredible career spanning 43 years. Having achieved a Master’s degree in Geology from St Peter’s College, Oxford, he started out as a Petroleum Geologist for BP and managed to travel the world with them working in the former Soviet Union, South America, the Middle East, Africa, Pakistan, the Netherlands and Australia.

From BP he continued to travel the world for companies like Neftex, Lasmo, Noble Energy, VOG Oil and Horizon Development, working in places like Aberdeen, Cameroon, Iraq and Iran. For a time he worked for the British Nuclear Group putting his supply chain management skills to use in the UK’s domestic energy production.

Between work, travel and raising a family he managed to find the time to secure an MBA from Cass Business School and an MCIPS qualification which he put to use regularly.

His life, although cut short, was full of adventure and certainly never dull having been kidnapped in Brazil, evacuated from Erbil during the rise of ISIS, inside the Soviet Union during its collapse, in Argentina when the Junta was toppled and having his appendix removed whilst in Iran. His travel would follow him home to - he loved pistachios and on one occasion brought some back from Iran. But he left it for so long in his office that caterpillars started to appear and it resulted in the office being fumigated.

At home, he was a staunch supporter of the Liberal Democrats and regularly helped out the local Wiltshire branch and he would tell you that he was a liberal before the Liberal Democrats even existed. He was a lifelong member of the RSPB and former summer warden at RSPB Minsmere. He loved cricket, Eccles cakes, Chelsea buns from Fitzbillies, and cooking.

He leaves behind his Mother, Sisters, Sons and Grandchildren.

His funeral is on the 11th of August 2023 at St. Nicholas, Winsley at 13:30 followed by refreshments at a local venue.

If you would like to, you can make a donation in memory of Dad to the RSPB. If you knew my father please send us photos, memories and stories to [email protected]
